Job Description
**DEFINITION**
**Under the direction of the Street Supervisor, this position performs duties required in the upkeep**
**and construction of streets; operates a variety of equipment in the operations, maintenance and**
**construction of streets.**
**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**
**• Assist with street surface maintenance including concrete repairs, joint sealing of streets,**
**street and alley blading, curb and gutter repairs, sidewalk construction and maintenance,**
**graveling of streets and alleys, ditching, storm sewer cleaning, placement and removal of**
**barricades, operation of street cleaners, cleans islands and picks up litter.**
**• Use office management software.**
**• Assist other governmental agencies and disaster relief efforts.**
**• Assist with the building and repairs of inlets in connection with storm sewers.**
**• Assist with various traffic services including operation of painting machine to paint**
**railroad crossings, school crossings, crosswalks, center lines.**
**• Assist with sign construction and maintenance.**
**• Operate equipment in removing snow from streets, alleys and parking lots.**
**• Operate equipment in preparing the road conditions for icy streets.**
**• Assist with maintenance of traffic signals, bridge and railing maintenance.**
**• Assist with utility breaks.**
**• Assist with shop maintenance including oiling, greasing and rebuilding equipment.**
**• Provide mowing and maintenance of the flood control channel.**
**• Assist other divisions when needed.**
**• Perform other duties as required.**
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
**Knowledge of:**
**• Operating methods of a variety of heavy equipment in excavating, loading, leveling and**
**grading.**
**• Knowledge of concrete repair, and bituminous repair beneficial.**
**• Uses and purposes of general construction tools and equipment.**
**• Hazards and the applicable safety rules and precautions in heavy equipment operation.**
**• Purposes and uses of variety of vehicles, equipment, power tools and hand tools**
**including motorized, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.**
**• Traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in heavy equipment operation.**
**• Care required of equipment washing, waxing, and keeping clean.**
**Ability to:**
**• Operate heavy equipment skillfully, safely and according to traffic laws and regulations.**
**• Detect needed repairs and make necessary adjustment.**
**• Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time.**
**• Perform semi\-skilled and skilled tasks in operation, maintenance and construction work**
**in the assigned area of responsibility.**
**• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.**
**• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.**
**• Establish and maintain effective working relationship with those contacted in the course**
**of work.**
Pay: $23\.34 \- $31\.98 per hour
