Responsibilities:
MasTec Communications Group is seeking a full\-time OSP Designer in support of a large\-scale telecommunications project for both OSP Fiber and Copper Networks.
The position requires experience with outside plant in aerial, buried, and/or underground facilities, with a thorough knowledge of all issues related to federal, state, or local government permitting, as well as pole and conduit licensing procedures with utility permitting agencies. The OSP Engineer must work cohesively with the Engineering PM.
In addition, you will:
* Conduct field site surveys to collect accurate data on existing telecom infrastructure, equipment, pathways, and environmental conditions
* Capture detailed measurements of poles, handholes, conduits, fiber routes, equipment locations, and building entry points.
* Document site characteristics (photos, GPS coordinates, notes) using company\-approved data collection tools or mobile applications
* Perform visual inspections of aerial and underground routes to identify clearances, obstructions, right‑of‑way constraints, and potential construction challenges.
* Communicate discrepancies, missing information, or site issues to design engineers and project managers.
* Observe and comply with all safety protocols, including traffic safety, PPE requirements, and utility‑specific guidelines.
* Operate field tools and devices, such as laser range finders, height sticks, tablets, GPS units, measuring wheels, and cameras.
* Upload and organize collected data into project folders or internal systems for engineering use.
* Travel to multiple field locations within a defined region to support ongoing project needs.
* Prepare detailed CAD drawings and design packages for fiber optic, wireless, and broadband network projects.
* Convert field data, survey notes, and redlines into accurate construction drawings and as‑built documentation
* Develop permit drawings for municipalities, DOT, railroads, utilities, and other governing bodies
* Maintain drawing consistency by adhering to company and client CAD standards, templates, and layer conventions.
* Perform quality checks on drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements.
