PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As a Track Evaluation Car Department CO-OP Student, you will work closely with experienced engineers to support the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of cutting-edge rail inspection technologies. This unique position offers you the opportunity to bridge academic knowledge with practical application, both in office settings and out in the field. You will be actively involved in addressing complex engineering challenges, gaining invaluable hands-on experience across diverse aspects of track evaluation. As an immersive railroader in training, you’ll travel extensively — up to 100% across North America—making a tangible impact on the safety, reliability, and continuous improvement of our rail infrastructure.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Support quality assurance and control processes
Monitor track recording systems and data collection tools
Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems
Join office meetings, field meetings, and conference calls to support project coordination
Effectively and professionally communicate with management to ensure clarity and support organizational objectives
Assist with data processing and archiving
Learn how railway engineering works—on the ground and in motion

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or general equivalency
Enrolled in a bachelor’s program in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering at an accredited institution
Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
Demonstrated enthusiasm for data analysis and practical technical tasks
Experience in Microsoft Office software suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Possess a valid driver’s license and passport with eligibility to travel throughout Canada and the U.S.

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
