These ranges reflect what BNSF Railway reasonably expects to pay for this position, based on the role’s level, scope, and responsibilities. Final compensation and position level will be determined by factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The BNSF Railway
Law and Claims Department
provides expert in-house counsel and collaborates with outside counsel to ensure the railroad operates safely and meets all legal and contractual obligations. Our licensed attorneys and legal professionals are dedicated to upholding the highest legal compliance standards. Additionally, our specialized Claims team promotes safety, investigates incidents, and resolves them ethically.

This is a full-time
position located in Memphis, TN.

Â
Key responsibilities may include:
Â
Implement
processes and procedures under direction of leadershipÂ
Cooperate
 and
coordinate
with Claims personnel on adjacent territories.Â
PerformÂ
thorough and ethical investigations to resolve exposures in a fair, honest and responsible manner.Â
Assist
attorneys and paralegals in preparation and trial of lawsuits.Â
Evaluate
settlements of claims and lawsuits within proper authority.Â
Work
closely with all BNSF departments to perform incident investigations/analyses and promote the Claims department’s vision statement.Â
Engage
with a variety of external contacts: local counsel, state, county, and city officials, law enforcement personnel, physicians, medical specialists, and expert consulting witnesses in specialized fields.Â
Observe
and
review
potential liabilities
on company property with respective non-claims field personnel.Â
Conduct
investigations in various weather conditions.Â
Work irregular hours
 and
available 24/7
for on-call duties, with frequent evening, night, and weekend shifts (including holidays).Â

Basic Qualifications:
Â
Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
Minimum 1 year experience at BNSF or in a related field (railroad claims, railroad, insurance, legal, investigative) or a combination thereof.

Preferred Qualifications:
Â
General knowledge of railroad operations and principles and/or insurance claims or related medical/legal field.
Knowledge and understanding of Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA).
