PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Assistant General Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of Intermodal and Automotive Operations within a designated territory. Reporting directly to the Vice President, this position provides strategic leadership, acts as the primary escalation point for operational issues, and drives excellence in safety, service, asset utilization, cost control, and team development.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provide visionary leadership to ensure safety, service quality, asset optimization, and cost efficiency
Drive strategic initiatives under the Assistant Vice President's guidance to enhance operational excellence
Act as the primary liaison for intermodal and automotive operations, resolving escalated issues across departments
Lead operational, safety, and project management efforts with a focus on continuous improvement
Develop and implement standardized procedures, policies, and operating practices across the territory to ensure consistent, efficient, and seamless terminal operations
Oversee train operations design and execution to promote terminal and network fluidity.
Manage performance, career development, and succession planning for directors and managers
Serve as “boots on the ground” to address operational hot spots quickly
Manage terminal budgets, ensuring accountability for variances and accruals
Direct long-term planning for capital investments and resource allocation
Conduct capacity planning for staffing, equipment, and resources to support growth
Negotiate vendor contracts and lead Request for proposals and procurement activities
Collaborate with labor relations on collective bargaining agreements and optimize resource allocation

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Transportation, preferred or equivalent industry experience
10+ years of progressive leadership experience in transportation, logistics, or intermodal operations
Valid driver’s license
Valid passport with ability to travel to U.S. without restrictions
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
Knowledge of unionized environments and labor relations
Ability to lead, motivate, and develop both mid-level management and broader teams, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
CPKC operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; this position does require being on call for escalation calls, decision-making, and problem-solving during evenings and weekend

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
